Victoria Wooters and Matt Mattoon are longtime supporters of Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. Below, they share the story of their connection to Caramoor in their own words.
Having attended Caramoor since 1978, it continues to be a wonderment to us seeing the evolution that has occurred over the years.
We remember the Venetian Theater’s humble beginnings with its gravel floor and metal folding chairs. It has evolved to cushioned chairs with solid flooring, enhanced lighting, state-of-the-art sound system and a more beautiful tent that includes heat venting, retractable curtain walls and gutters that afford us comfort no matter the weather.
And now they have grown to have three distinctly different venues to accommodate a growing selection of stellar programs in the best setting.
We’ve seen the Rosen House transform into a unique jewel that stands out as one of a few stately historical homes in Westchester with Caramoor’s commitment to making it the educational showplace that it is today.
We both have acquired a great appreciation for Lucy and Walter’s love of music, their art collection and historical rooms, incorporating it with the mission to share Caramoor with friends and strangers alike, all in this bucolic setting.
We felt we wanted to give back some of the joy we feel every time we come to Caramoor, and so we have volunteered as ushers and greeters for the concerts as well as being a docent in the house, allowing us to share our love and knowledge with the myriad of people who visit here.
But we realize that all of this takes funding from those of us who wish to see that Caramoor continues to ensure the highest quality music and art programs, educational programs, luscious gardens and grounds, a beautiful museum-quality house and the great support given to aspiring musicians, vocalistsand artists.
We recently updated our estate plan to include Caramoor so it can continue its legacy.
After all, were it not for the many generous financial supporters before us who have helped to make Caramoor a place to enjoy, learn and be proud of, this could not have happened without their generous and thoughtful gifts.
We couldn’t think of a better investment that will continue to ensure Caramoor’s future for many years to come.
